It’s the 8th of the month, that means it’s time for another cartoon sampler.

It being the 8th of October also means it’s the day before the 9th of October which is my birthday. Which makes today the season finale for this age!

I turn 32 which in my world is a good thing, a nice number divisible by 4. I like 4’s. There wasn’t much I could do with 31. Tomorrow is also the 2 year anniversary of me entering my 30’s. Back in 2024 I put together a to-do list for the decade, here it is:

I didn’t really think going from my 20’s to my 30’s would make much of a difference really. One day I was 29, the next day I was 30. But to be honest, it really has meant things have gotten easier. It definitely is true that the older you get the less you give a shit about the opinions of those who don’t matter in your life.

On the other side of that, my 20’s was rough. I’m pretty open about my mental health struggles and after a suicide attempt in 2017 at the age of 22 I basically spent the rest of my 20’s recovering and trying to get anything resembling my shit together. And when I was approaching my 30’s, I realised I wanted more. I wanted to do more than just live in survival mode my whole life. I wanted to do more than just get through the day.

So when I turned 30 I started making plans (a bit more seriously than the to-do list above would indicate). I started thinking about where I’d like to be in 10 years. A lot of that revolved around my art and music. That’s why I built this site, so I would have somewhere to share.

When I put out my cartoon samplers I always have the idea that someone, anywhere in the world, might stumble upon it while searching the web. Remember StumbleUpon? That was a fun site for finding websites. The internet is a very different place these days where a lot of it is monopolized and the algorithm rules all. Unless people search for something very specific (like cartoons about Bruce and coffee) they may never find this site. But still, now and then when I check I see I get a visitor from somewhere who looked at a few posts or pages. And if my cartoons can make that person smile then that’s a good thing.

As for my age, I am very much in the 30’s territory. When I sneeze, the sneezes are loud, a sound like someones dad would make. Sometimes they hurt my arm. And I make a little noise getting out of a chair after having a sit down, an idea that appealed to me after standing for a while. I’m often aware of my knees, and there are grey hairs among the mane.

But I’m also happier than I was at any other stage in my life.

I’m hoping we don’t have a dramatic cliffhanger to end season 32 heading into season 33. Yes this is the season 32 finale, as when I was born it was season 1, and my 32nd birthday will be the season 33 premiere. If this were a real TV series it would have been rebooted by now.

That’s enough numbers.
